Hello,
My name is Kim Angel and I manage the website for WB Stables. I am
a 4th grade teacher at a local elementary school. If you have ever
emailed us, you most likely have spoken with me! I would like to
take the opportunity to tell you a little more about WB Stables and what
we stand for.
If you have ever called WB Stables, most likely you have talked to my
fiancé Greg. Greg started riding at a very young age and has
ridden all his life. His babysitter, who recently passed away,
bought his first pony when he was a small boy. Since then, Greg
has broke many horses and mules and has made many friends in the horse
industry. He has fooled with walkers all his life and is now the
stallion manager at a large breeding facility in Somerset, Kentucky.
He manages a farm with over 100 mares and colts. Greg and I met
six years ago and got engaged two years ago.
Greg and I do not own our own farm, but we are fortunate enough to have
friends who have a small barn and are just as interested in horses as we
are. The Buckles Family (Tim and Angie and their three children
Nellie, Sammie, and Kash) have been in the horse industry for several
years now. Angie and Tim rode horses as children and now they are
providing their children with the opportunity to learn how to ride as
well.
Together, we all make up WB Stables. We have normal jobs and enjoy
riding and selling horses as a hobby. We are a small operation
(only 8 stalls and a lot), however, this enables us to devote more
attention to each individual horse and really get to know their
personalities so we can recommend them to our customers. The
foundation of our business is built on honesty and integrity because we
know that if our customers are satisfied with their horse, they will
come back for more or recommend us to their friends. WE DO NOT BUY
OUR HORSES AT STOCK YARDS TO RESELL TO OUR CUSTOMERS! Our horses come from people who have
owned them for several years or raised them, so they have not been
traded around. Most of the horses we buy have been ridden on
trails extensively and are safe for young or inexperienced riders.
We go to a lot of trouble to select horses based on certain criteria.
If you have any questions about WB Stables or any of our horses, please
feel free to call or email any time. We look forward to hearing
from you!
Sincerely,
WB Stables
*If you are interested in the criteria we use to select our horses or
our training methods, please read the information below.
WB Stables Horse Selection Criteria:
At WB Stables, we
are devoted to finding the perfect naturally gaited horse to
suit your needs. We feel that all great trail horses and show
horses possess the
same basic traits, therefore, we use the criteria below to select our
horses. We look for potential horses that:
-
are calm-natured and do not spook at wildlife,
equipment, four wheelers, hay, trucks, etc.
-
have lots of experience on the trails and a willingness
to go anywhere
-
require light contact in the mouth and walk on a
loose rein
-
have a natural, silky smooth, consistent four beat slow and fast
gait with a 45 ۫ headset
-
have lots of color or unusual markings with good
conformation and a full frame
After we purchase a horse, we will keep the horse and
ride it for at least two months. During this time, we expose the
horse to many different tests. If the horse fails a test (like
crossing a creek or backing up) then we continue to work with the horse
until it has mastered that skill. We can also get to know the
horse so we can make specific recommendations or let the potential buyer
know what they can expect from the horse.
Our Training
Methods:
Not all horses are born with these characteristics, so our horses
undergo training on a daily basis to mold them into the "perfect" horse.
We put all our horses through a series of tests before they are ever
offered for sale. All horses are started using natural
horsemanship methods. The horse will first go
through the Join-Up process. This helps build the horse's trust
and makes for a better companion. Most of our horses will walk
right up to us in a paddock after using these methods. During the
Join-Up process, we expose our horses to different things such as
plastic bags, tarps, etc. to help them become comfortable with their
surroundings. We also teach our horses proper ground manners and
how to load on a trailer.
After successful Join-Up, we will begin to take the horse out on
trail rides. During daily rides, the horse learns important skills
needed to become the perfect trail horse, such as crossing creeks, going
up and down steep hills, staying in a consistent gait, walking on a loose
rein, standing still to mount, and not spooking at anything.
When a horse has passed all our tests, they are
generally broke enough for anything, including inexperienced riders,
field trial, endurance rides, western and english pleasure, trail
riding, show, and other competitive and non-competitive events. At
this point, we will video the horse and take pictures to put on our
website and offer the horse for sale. We want
our horses to be talked about for their dependability, beauty, and
perfection everywhere they go because we take great pride in the quality
of horses we sell and the professional manner in which we do business.
